LAGSCA President Katherine Whitman and several directors attended the opening ceremony of an event hosted at the Whittier Museum on January 4th. Organized by Dr. Pedro Chan, Director of the Flying Tigers Institute, this photo exhibit of historic images celebrates forty years of US-China Relations.
Memorabilia, photographs, newspapers and magazines made up the exhibit that chronicled high profile meetings of American and Chinese leaders. Everyone was treated to a historic walk down memory lane revisiting the 1972 visit to China by Richard Nixon and all the subsequent visits by American presidents to China and Chinese leaders in the US. This included the signing of the historic document in January 1979 between President Jimmy Carter and Deng Xiaoping.
It was truly a cause to celebrate and highlighted the strong friendship between the US and China over the past forty years. In these challenging times between our two nations it was a great moment to look back on the good times of hope and close cooperation.
Around a hundred invited guests attended the event held at the Whittier Museum, not far from the boyhood home of Richard Nixon. Special guests included Whittier Mayor Joe Vinatieri, Yorba Linda Mayor Tara Campbell, Councilman (and former mayor) Gene Hernandez, Cerritos council member Grace Hu, Maj. General William Chen and other VIP’s from the China Consulate.
